Bus Scene Post
The bus scene in Stranger Than Fiction seems to have some clear symbolism. The camera stays stationary on Harold while he's sitting on the bus, isolated from the other bus passengers. In the background, the people and the scene are constantly changing as the bus travels through the city, but the image of Harold is seemingly unchanged throughout all of this. Like Gregor in Metamorphosis, Harold is seemingly isolated from the rest of society with the exception of his occupation, which is essentially the entirety of his social interaction. There seems to be a direct parallel between the two characters. as the two are soon thrown into situations that greatly alter their once uneventful and repetitive lives.
